Dr. Matthew Winter

Dr. Matthew Winter graduated from the University of Maryland, the world's first dental school, in 2019. He was a member of the Dental Implant Society Club and Dental Anesthesiology Club. Dr. Winter was awarded the opportunity to complete a clerkship in radiology to gain understanding and interpretation with Cone Beam CT (3D) imaging and intraoral radiography. While in dental school, he volunteered numerous weekend hours to treat underserved patients in local communities around the Baltimore Metro area.  Dr. Winter knew at a young age that he wanted to be in the dental field. Over the course of his childhood, he watched and learned from his mother, who has been a hygienist for over 40 years. He realized dentistry had the perfect blend of patient care, biology, and research.  Dr. Winter expanded his passion for science and learning prior to attending dental school. For 5 years, he worked as a research specialist in the Department of Infectious Disease at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. While working, Dr. Winter obtained a Master of Science in biotechnology at Johns Hopkins University.

The year following graduating from University of Maryland, Dr. Winter pursued a general practice residency program at Wellspan York Hospital in York, Pennsylvania, to enhance his clinical skills and provide the best care for his future patients. He gained clinical experiences focused on learning and performing advanced training techniques in restorative, operative, fixed and removable prosthodontics, pediatrics, endodontics, oral surgery, and implantology. Being in a hospital setting, Dr. Winter was on-call for dental emergencies in the hospital ER and Trauma Center. He also had the opportunity to perform full mouth dental rehabilitation cases under general anesthesia in an operating room setting. Towards the end of his residency year, he was able to provide care during the COVID-19 pandemic under the strictest of infection control protocols and brings a high level of expertise to Catonsville Comprehensive Dentistry.

Dr. Winter is a life-long Maryland resident. Growing up in Harford County, he attended Loyola University Maryland, where he met his wife, Colleen. Dr. Winter and Colleen, a Speech Language Pathologist, have two sons, Sean, and Owen. In their spare time, they enjoy hiking, spending time at the beach, and watching Ravens games on Sunday.
